Ramp and ball gravity experiment

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I am am a science teacher looking to produce some work on the history of science.

I vaguely remember a TV program in which Newton used a ball, Ramp and water (as a timer) to evalute "g"

I would like to find more details of this experiment so that I could devise a version for students to use in school.
