Historical Buildingstones

walking hermit The Lodge was founded on the 19th of November 1734. It started with the name "Loge du Grand Maître des Provinces Unies et du ressort de la Généralité". On the 26th of May 1749 it took the name "L'Union". And finally on 31th of March 1757 the Lodge "La Royale" and the Lodge "L'Union" united. After that the name of the Lodge was "L'Union Royale".
Quite a story could be told about the 263 years following the founding of this Lodge. With the occasion of its 250 years excistance, in 1984, a book was written named: " Gelukkig hij, die dit weet" (Lucky is he, who knows this). It was written by drs. W. Birza (ISBN 9024780632). The history of the Lodge in broad context is described in his book.

The Lodge now

seal of LUR

L'Union Royale is the oldest Lodge in The Netherlands (Lodge number 1). A rich tradition, filled with happenings and histories, is the foundation of the Lodge. In addition to tradition, spirituality and friendship play an important role. There is a wide diversity in age, occupation, background and views within L'Union Royale. The atmosphere is broad-minded and lively, colouring the Lodge. Approximately 20 to 30 persons come to each meeting. The meetings are sprightly, studious, refreshing and stimulating. A good, pleasant conversation is always possible. By being yourself, you make friends for a lifetime. A nice way to develop oneself! Panta rhei, or, everything flows, all is in motion.

More Information about Freemasonry

Of course there is much more information about Freemasonry available on the Internet. There are several interesting links about Freemasonry in The Netherlands (in Dutch), but also international links as well.

When you're a member of a Lodge, it is interesting to go to the meetings of other lodges  (Menu Loges per provincie takes you there). It will give you the feeling of coming home. The same mutual cordiality, recognition of customs and sharing of experiences lies at the root of this feeling.

Should you wish more information about the Lodge L'Union Royale, evenings for interested persons or Freemasonry, please feel free to send an email to the secretary of the Lodge.
